What is a sports mouthguard?
Mouthguards are coverings worn over teeth and often used to protect teeth from injury during sports. An effective mouthguard should be comfortable, resist tears, be durable and easy to clean, and should not restrict your breathing or speech. Mouthguards should be used by anyone – both children and adults – who play contact sports such as football, boxing, soccer, ice hockey, basketball, lacrosse, and field hockey. However, even those participating in non-contact sports (for example, gymnastics) and any recreational activity (such as skateboarding, mountain biking, etc.) can use mouthguards for their safety because these activities also have the risk of injury.
Procedure
We begin by taking impressions of your upper and lower jaw to record the teeth anatomy and the other supporting structures. We take precise measurements to guarantee a perfect fit. In the lab, the cast is prepared to replicate the way that your teeth move and bite. Using CAD/CAM technique, we design 3D models of the mouthguard. The model is then used to manufacture the mouthguard. Once it is completed, the mouthguard is delivered to you along with the instructions on how to use and store it.
